2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV Review

By Dave Ashton

The time is here, and all the reviewers have finally got their hands on the new 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV to sum up the good, the bad, and the ugly. This potentially polarising vehicle aims to touch the hearts of both EV and muscle car enthusiasts. That’s a tall order for any carmaker, so it’s worth checking out what the car first has to offer and then whether there is any consensus over opinions from the initial reviews.

2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV Stats.

The tick boxes have been checked off when it comes to performance.
Dual motors provide all-wheel drive, 335bhp for each motor, totalling 630bhp, and an extra 40bhp from the ‘Powershot’. When all the buttons are pushed, that’s a total of 670bhp and 627lb ft. and a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.3 seconds.
The new charger has an EPA range of 241 miles, with a 496bhp R/T option having a 300+ mile range. But, this one isn’t a pure EV, but a straight six, twin-turbo, gas-powered variant, which should have all-wheel drive.

There’s also a proprietary eRupt multi-speed transmission to reproduce the stick shift experience.

Performance is also key with the Charger Daytona EV. there are different driving modes in the form of Auto, Wet, Sport and Track. With a drag and drift/donut version.

As for recharging, the current stats. say that the 400-volt battery can go from 5-80% charge in 32.5 minutes.

The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust has been one of the biggest talking points and for good reason. How does a muscle car without a V8 produce a V8 sound and feel? The solution by Dodge comes in the form of a 600W speaker system, which sounds more convincing on the move rather than when idling.

As for the interior, the fine balancing act between barebones muscle car features and modern EV sensibilities continues. LED lighting all round, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with a 16-inch curved digital cluster, Adaptive Cruise Control, 360-degree Surround View Camera, Collision Avoidance Systems, and even Vegan leather and recycled components.

As the prices, the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV comes in at $61,590, with a destination charge of $1,995. The Scat pack version is $75,190, but comes with extras like Brembo brakes, better suspension, 20 inch alloy wheels, and additional driving modes.

Initial Impressions

The huge caveat here is that Dodge is trying to please both the existing muscle car market and EV enthusiasts. A tall order for any carmaker.

The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV is a worthy first entry into the unknown territory of EV muscle cars. plus points – great looks, instant torque, great performance, and when on the move the exhaust system does the job. But, a muscle car also needs to feel on the edge of out-of-control and reckless. These tweaks will come in time, so check out the two videos below which give both a US and European perspective on the new Dodge.

A European perspective is needed as the Ford Mustang has clearly shown how other territories can bolster muscle car sales (as long as the steering wheel is on the ‘correct’ side). Having an alternative view is sometimes a good thing….
