Mercedes-Benz Recalls 32,000 Cars Over Power Failures – Kelley Blue Book

Mercedes-Benz has recalled about 32,000 vehicles because a fuse problem can cause them to lose drive power and critical safety functions suddenly.

Recalled models include:

Mercedes-Benz tells federal safety officials that the cars may have 80-amp fuses that don’t meet production requirements. Should a fuse fail, “systems connected to the fuse might become inoperable. Among others, the vehicle might lose propulsion without warning, restraint functions, or the instrument cluster might be impaired, increasing the risk of a crash and injuries. In addition, a risk of fire cannot be ruled out.”

Drivers would receive no warning.

Mercedes-Benz is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or warranty claims related to the issue. Technicians discovered it during a quality inspection at the factory, but they couldn’t rule out that some cars were delivered with potentially faulty fuses before they found the problem.

Dealers will replace the main fuse box in each car to fix the problem. Recall repairs are always free.
