In documents filed with federal safety regulators, Tesla explains that a supplier secures the backs of Model Y second-row seats to their lower seat frames with four bolts. That supplier may have insufficiently tightened one or more of the bolts, which could prevent the seat and seatbelt from working together properly in an accident.
The company is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem but says it has received five warranty claims for related repairs.
The fix is as simple as you’d imagine – Tesla will inspect the bolts and tighten them if needed.
Recall repairs are always free.
Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely get them all. Millions of cars on American roads need free recall repairs. Check the easy VIN tool at our recall center to find out if your car is one of them.
