An all-new 2024 Subaru Impreza will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which starts November 18.

We’d love to tell you more, but that’s all the information Subaru has provided so far. A shadowy teaser shows a hatchback model is still in the plans but reveals nothing else.

Today, the 2023 Impreza on dealer lots is known for its standard all-wheel drive (AWD), strong resale values, and reasonable price (starting at $19,795 plus $1,020 destination and handling). However, it’s an aging car, last redesigned in 2016.

It sits outside the top 10 in our list of the Best Compact Cars based on a comparatively weak 152-horsepower base engine and an aging platform. A redesign could fix those problems.

The Impreza competes against several more recent designs, including an all-new 2022 Honda Civic distinguished by its refinement and a Hyundai Elantra with its assertive styling and an extended warranty. A new design could do a lot to pull it back into the thick of the competition.

We’ll bring more information as the L.A. Auto Show gets closer.
